Moonee Valley

Race 1- Extension of Time looked the part in winning the first. Brazon Hussey ran them along and looked to be going well turning for home, but was just outclassed by a good one on the line. The winner looked really good. Solid run by the other Hayes invader in Murjana. Uptown Lass was a little outclassed, ran on fair in what turned out to be the worst part of the track. Horses on the fence at the Valley were seemingly advantaged over other runners. Trifecta was provided in our four picks.

Race 2- It needed something to spark it...and the application of blinkers and a firmer surface put LaSpiel back on the map in this. Craig Williams and Damien Oliver dominated with their rides on respective mounts. Williams crawled them along on well fancied Kinugawa, while Ollie was able to get LaSpiel up handy in the action. This turned out to be decisive as it's only threat was the leader. Kinugawa looked again pretty good, but LaSpiel continually grinded away at it and was just too good on the line. I'm not getting carried away with the win but it was strong. Lil Orpen Annie ran well and rewarded eachway backers at the 9.00 SP. Wahy over-raced terribly and disliked the slow pace...forget that run.

Race 3- Muzdaher...my special got up here. Members should have cleaned up on this, and given the mail was released thursday night every one should have taken the $4.60 Best Fluctuation and not the tote which was crunched into $3.20. Never going to lose when it drew the wide barrier. Too strong for these. Williams rode it very well taking out the luck aspect by forging on continually until it got the rail, I'm sure if there was genuine speed from the inside he could have taken the sit outside. Result would have been the same. This was a snack, and punters eventually figured it out. Or did they just blindly follow Hayes pre-race gee-up. Who Knows? Anyway I knew what I was doing. Hope you backed it too. Airstream ran a really nice race for a horse that hasn't seen much racing over the last year or so. And Saayeb bobbed up again with another good little run to pinch third.

Race 4- Magic Tori sneakily took this out when Brolago looked all over the winner. Pretty good speed here and when the race went on only the good ones were left standing. Empire Dancer was the first to get a move on but only battled to the line. Brolago travelled well and shot through to take the lead and looked like winning this one easy. It went to the line well, but Magic Tori ridden cold and saved for one last ditch effort along the rails had just too much steam up for it to take the race. Good efforts by the first two. Empire Dancer ok, and not much to say for the rest. Again the winner came along the rail.

Race 5- Ista Kareem defied the weight, the Saliente hot speed and all to take out the fifth. Danny Brereton is showing great patience on stayers at present, and got the right luck again to shoot through this improved galloper through a gap on the turn, then set it away for a convincing win. Bugatti Royale gave another solid showing to hold second comfortably, and Baughurst found it a little tougher here without the wet surface and having to make his claim from out deep. Disadvantaged but never going to win. Grand Destiny was awful, suspect it has trained off after a long campaign.

Race 6- Monet Rules...well we knew he was ready for this grade but to come out and thrash them like he did was a serious display. He got and shared the lead rather comfortably and some will try and argue that this race was handed to him, well I hope you watched the last 200m because this horse really opened up and when to the line flying. Serious effort. Orange County did his best had all the favours but was beaten by a much better galloper on the day. El Segundo was good, Any Suggestion a touch unlucky (What's New), and Blutigeroo put in a super run from the back. All honours with the winner though.

Race 7- They say a change is like a holiday, and Haddle Macdaddle proved just that with the addition of blinkers. He'd be running fair in similar grade without threatening, well he looked a different horse with the blinkers on today. There was no struggle to the line in this he just got to the front, raced away and kept steaming to the line. Good win, bit of suprise really had been getting use to his "last-quarter" like fades. Bellyboy was good along the rail, Emerald Jack ok. Cefalu not hopeless, The Fuzz will be better for that - don't grade that run too harshly. We suspected last week's run might take the stuffing out of Incentate and that proved to be the case.

Race 8- Miss La Tar used the fast transit lane to get the job done in the last. And so it seemed a Transit Lane as everyone else chose a different path allowing MLT a dream passage in the race, pulled out at the top of the straight and gradually picked up the defiant Hidden Strings right on the line. Another one to fire with a gear change. Fair win, pretty bad race. Mixxer was a run that was better than it looked as it had to cover ground with nothing leading it into the race. A few of the wet trackers were found out too here.

Interesting to note that Best Fluctuation betting provided 6 of the 8 best prices on winners on the weekend. No real suprises there, the only exceptions were Miss La Tar & Extension of Time. And given Miss La Tar was a roughie - you would expect the best of three totes to be a touch better, and Extension of Time an unknown quantity to most...one can start to conclude that for general betting this is a very important bet type.

Win of the Day-

Monet Rules

Horses To Follow - Monet Rules, Extension of Time.

Better than it looks - Mixxer, The Fuzz, Airstream
