February 16th
Moonee Valley
Race 1- A glowing Skiddaw Peak won the first. Sat outside the leaders and proved too good in the straight, Beech Hurst travelled well to the turn and Let Loushe who did the tough work out wide filled the minors
Race 2- Craig Williams pulled the wrong rein here electing to sit on Fuji Fantasy when he had the choice to ride Britomart following their latest runs. Britomart broke through well to win this over the 2500m. Nine Wives stuck on well considering it was forced to go foward early with it's wide draw and Video Star rallied nicely for third. Saddler's Story couldn't quite get the job done when he loomed up as a threat on the turn.
Race 3- In what looked to be a nothing race produced a runnaway winner in Lazer Sharp. A nice return at a track where it has competed so well in the past. Lazer Sharp beat Vicarage Gate who was good on speed, and then Roman Arch who took up the running. Pinnacles laboured into fourth.
Race 4- Absolut Glam was too good for her own grade in a listed race here. Catalan Bay my push should have run third but for an over eager Sebastian Murphy. With the race to himself out if front he could have sat there for a little longer as they all began to all jam up behind him. Had a big place go, so obviously dissapointed it got nosed by Arapaho Miss for third. Miss Marielle ran a nice second, and the Oaks winner did finish it off well. The Bay was ok but we're dropping off now.
Race 5- Things got better here with Top Rater Light Fantastic racing past hot favourite Gibraltor Campion to win easy. Looks a horse Light Fantastic. Pit Lane ran an encouraging race as suggested, and Arcadia pushed through when the race was over.
Race 6- Rewarded followers in the Alister Clark with my best for the day Sound Journey packing too many puches for Playwright. Oliver rode it well after Sound Journey over-raced early on. These two went past Schilling without too much trouble with Playwright eating up the ground in the last 100m. They pay on winner's though and 7-1 would have been treated to by members. Followed him from very early on so was well aware of this ability. Raffealo just held Zagreb for fourth who came from the tail.
Race 7- The plan to back Apache Cat and Tan Tat De Lago didn't occur because of Tan Tat's scratching so we were left with Apache Cat on his lonesome. Hope you noticed the early backing for Tan Tat De Lago I think she would have run a terrific race. All honours with the winner and the ride by Corey Brown, his ride was the difference in comparison to the unlucky Sonic Quest in the race. It pays more often than not to go the outside and favourite punters would have loved Corey's ride here. Stanzout and Monet Rules ran honest placings.
Race 8- Laura's Charm was well backed and hung on by a breath to beat Illinois Girl who rallied hard in the straight. Wayne's Gold another who look beat at the top of the straight came again and nearly got the race herself. Strange ride by Seb Murphy on Game Serena as he had position coming to the turn but choose to ride cold in to the straight. This horse needs to be set alight early and looked a major pilot error. Trainer was convinced he had her ready for the 1600m second-up.
Race 9- A painful mares race to end the day, with proven fillies Antartic Miss and Belcentra providing shadows of there best going in. I warned punters they wouldn't be flat out for this. Miss Gundowring well she just keeps winning, solid performance to hold off O'Marie who was well backed following a nice trial recently and Bird of Fire who was ridiculous odds of 40-1.
Good week we turned a profit with Sound Journey and Chart Topper both the best on each report this week winning, as suggested we had to play it safe, this week however I'm confident we can let rip.
