Caulfield
Race 1-Try This overcome some slight interference at the top of the straight to lauch back on the inside and win this one. We suggested to sidestep Arapaho Miss today and we were right. Her best work was in the last 50m.
Race 2- Hot speed in this the hottest of the day, and those on it got reeled in pretty quick. Danedina the favourite was the first to go but she couldn't hold Miss Marielle who looked good in winning from Mio Mio who followed her from last and Danedina. We had a bit on Port Isabel but she got burnt a little on the speed, in saying that a fair performance at best.
Race 3- Vandalo stopped us from tipping the quinella here with a hard running display down the middle holding off Blue Sky who kept grinding like we said Blue Sky would, and Teskara who couldn't reel them in with the bigger weight and widish run. Pretty good runs all these including Zacroona in fifth. A place bet on Blue Sky here saw us respond.
Race 4- We said there were five main hopes three of these filled the first four including Neugine at 75-1 returning first four backers $8800. Pillar of Herculues came off a slowish pace to win well. Down Under Boy returned to form with a nice second, in front of Villain who looked great even though only finished third, again we suggested to sidestep him today.
Race 5- Again we gave you the reasons to sidestep a good one in Vormista and that was validated here. Yes she ran the fastest 600m but they don't pay out on that. She's one of ours don't worry about that - you just have to know when to bet on the good ones. We suggested to back Like It Is eachway and made it one of our better bets for the day. We looked the winner 50 out... but for a slippery run by Miss Fantabulous on the fence. 14-1 Like It Is E/W pays the bills however and kept us rolling. Bellini Rose ran a nice race for a placing. Vormista don't sack her.
Race6- The Sprint wasn't our Cup of tea and Tesbury Jack perhaps exposed a few here, winning but not as impressively as he is capable of. It was under pressure all the way up the straight, not only did he win but history tells us he will be better for that run, Tesbury Jack. Typhoon Zed run a good race from the barrier...as suggested Typhoon goes better fresh...and a place bet on him in the race was the only thing we did here. Stanzout our top rater was unlucky. And Undue we rightly sidestepped as we mentioned Undue's too reliant on other's bringing him into the race...and the cards went against him back on the rail.
Race 7- Our steady wins got a whole let better here. We said that Fire In The Night and Pacino were the ones. And from a betting point of view they were. We suggested to back Fire In The Night made him one of our bets for the day, more the win because he's a big horse and if he found trouble running a place would have been much harder. That's the reasoning behind more the win you will see on our guide if you review it. We actually bet smart here...backing Pacino the place as well so we killed this race. Fire in the Night and Pacino were both good runs, the other favourites Molotov and Drac's Back ran up to there limit.
Race 8- Tragedy struck here with both hot favourite Maldivian being scratched at the barrier and Eskimo Queen. This paved the way for a super win by Master O'Reilly who hauled in stablemate Douro Valley. Princess Coup ran on nicely for third. And Purple Moon was the run outside the placegetters.
Race 9- Again this race was a bit of a nightmare as suggested in the preview we didn't want to be a part of the favourite Roman Squire...not on ability...but just how the big fella would get around Caulfield. Bang on again...Roman Squire was no good, but made a useful effort in the straight. The run of the race was the winner Lord of The Dance. Crossed from out wide and gave nothing a chance in the straight...good win. We speculated with Fire Hazard who loomed up in the straight but couldn't finish it off winding up in fifth.
Race 10- We probably should have made more of the last. Our top three picks, finished 1,2,4...first four paying over $1100. Our Top rater Soaressa 12-1 ran on stylishly but couldn't quite haul in La Chassuese who we said would love the fact this its 1100m. Can't complain two much we got quinellas and trifectas and rounded out a decent day. Mistake Creek was a bit unlucky in fourth for the future.
Not only did we save you alot of money today not burning it on favourites who didn't get over the line...but we found you more than enough to go home a winner.
