Moonee Valley
Race 1- Kaphero put in a great display here to win the first. Finished with gusto. Our top rater and most people's hopes Apple Lode drifted back from the start and never really got into it. Not a poor run, but did nothing for backers. Spectaculuar Saint the value as it turned out was ridiculous odds in the race - paid great place money at $3.60 best tote, Spectacular Saint. Good one to save on in the race. City Of Ruins found a passage and run third. Hope you covered yourself there.
Race 2- Miss Marielle converted her good win at Caulfield into another solid win here. Miss Marielle can go better elsewhere too, if you get my drift. Bird of Fire did her best and looked quite good on top of the ground, finishing it off better than usual, holding Class Prevails who was probably the run of the race. We rated Class Prevails very highly second best and if you backed best tote place you would have got $6.50. Diva La Belle was ok, Catalan Bay no good...possibly had enough.
Race 3- We found the quinella here in Royal Asscher and El Mandon the reversal of the placings would of been nice though. Royal Asscher enjoyed the good speed and followed the Kilmore maiden winner, El Mandon, into the race and won stylishly. El Mandon will win races on that run we got a bit of a return on the eachway and Wilsons Promontory added the value with some bookies offering 200-1 on him.
Race 4- Most considered this one like myself a non-betting event...the clash of Gold Edition and Miss Andretti. Though she won well...on paper she was a risk going in...1200m first up against a horse that runs her opponents into the ground. In the Red...No thanks. Those following on-line though would have noticed an opportunity that bobbed up...a place bet on Gold Edition. Right before the jump she was 1.50 and better around the country...couldn't let that go. We ended up with 1.30 best tote...but all things considered that was money for jam. Both horses were great all honours with the winner. Let Go Thommo solid, Zupaone back to the drawing board.
Race 5- We found the value in this, got the trifecta just wished it would have paid more in the Inglis Mile. Game Serena was our top rater and one of our bets for the day. At the turn it looked hopeless with a wall of horses in front of her and much to do...but as I said in my report if she gets an uninterrupted run for a space her best is her last 100m...and I was spot on... she hammered to the post to get us third...returning $5.20 on the place...and getting us the tri. Autumn Jueney and Maslins Beach deadheated the race getting an opportunity to show there best in this company. Both looked great going to the line.
Race 6- Marching put up a serious Derby trial to take the Vase. Fantastic little galloper this and I have always said the further they go the greater the heart kicks in and he's got a really good one. Should be a good clash with Villain in the Derby. Kibbutz did well to run second, perhaps the Valley is not quite his track for such a big animal, and Barbaricus solid in third.
Race 7- The old marvel Gallic ran over the top of them in the Moonee Valley Cup to go into the Melbourne Cup with a serious claim now. Gallic, was in our first three I played it safe with him given the barrier, weight and prep. Lazer Sharp almost provided the upset we suggested was a distinct possibility running up to it's Autumn form. He was unlucky last start and a few picked up on that. Jukebox Johnny was probably the unluckiest runner in the race as he threatened big time turning for home but couldn't find the galloping room to be even more dangerous. Sarrera ran a very good race in fourth. In our four selections three ran in the first four and it paid over $15,000. Couldn't believe that.
Race 8- Well done Luke Nolen and El Segundo who won the Cox Plate in style. Brilliantly ridden by Nolen he fixed up a few early to get in a good spot and made a few others work a little harder. And was always going to be dangerous sitting on a slow speed following horses who lack ping outside of the runner-up Wonderful World. Haradasun our each-way best bet. Put in a great performance we got our money back on him. A good return considering Devil Moon did her level best to pester him turning out of the straight and Ollie was forced to lead when getting caught wide at the beginning. Was strong on the line but others were too slippery for him, as I said though he was no gamble had everything against and still ran a mighty third.. Interesting Cup trials by a few behind.
Race 9- Sonic Quest murdered them here. Going very well, enjoyed the speed on. Orange County ran out the 1600m well and Tears I Cry deserved third as he took off early for the lead and sustained his run well to the line. In the Shadows is banned from competing at the Valley again he doesn't like making his run on the home bend that's where he loses his momentum when In The Shadows is looking to build it.
Race 10- Princess Marizza thundered down the outside here to grab our top rater Sun Glazed 12-1 and Sensational Toy who was good. The winner Princess Marizza can definitely go on with it.
