March 4th
Caulfield...
Race 1- Recline careered away from them in the first to win impressively. Millie Rose and Lucky Diva chased hard but were losing ground by the finishing line as the winner was far too good. Lula made a lightning move to the lead early in the straight but that amounted to nothing.
Race 2- Ulfah gave David Hayes another reason to smile with his current crop of two year olds with a slashing run from this youngster. She came from the tail which makes even better reading as they covered the last 600m in less than 35 seconds. She stretched out nicely over the last 200m.
Race 3- Spinney again. Looks a real stayer in the making as he kept going strong to the line to hold out the capable Silver Ninja. Darren rode her a treat as he made a significant move at the 1600m mark to ensure that he wasn't going to be on the fence, positioning him one out and one back.
Race 4- Follow the Till makes good of the $10,000 purchase price on his head at the Sales by winning the rich Inglis Premier. He was well backed in the ring to start favourite and didn't let favourite backers down. As good as the winner was, how about the second horse Catechuchu. This Catbird filly looks a star in the making with a gorilla like finish to the end of the race. One to definitely follow, and can perhaps be advantaged by a bigger track.
Race 5- All Bar One was another one from barrier to box. He railed well at the corner and had them all off the bit. He franked that group one form at the Valley by getting the prize here. Raid the Royals made his best return this campaign by steaming home late. Gonski wasn't a bad run but those who took the silly short odds may not agree.
Race 6- Fields of Omagh takes the Futurity. A reward here for consistent performance as he gun downed Red Dazzler in the shadows of the post with Rosden running on for third. Live in Vain set another scorching speed here with Red Dazzler and Shinzig doing the chasing. Fields of Omagh came to the outside and slowly wore down Red Dazzler who had claimed the lead inside the 300m.
Red Dazzler showed a return to form with perhaps the speed in the race turning him on. Headturner ran a horrrible third last and not much can be said for Confectioner, with Craig Williams having her falling out of the barriers and doing nothing. Perfect Promise ran ok, nonetheless Lee Freedman believes she may be better kept fresh and we may not see her until the Doncaster.
Race 7- Serenade Rose was all class yesterday well ridden by Steven King. He showed good patience at the 200m mark when sweating on a run, but intelligently he pulled her to the outside and it was all over. This is a very good filly and sky could be the limit. Doubting showed she was in need of a run last start by improving to run second today. Pasikatera our place bet had every chance, she was pushed three wide at times...however she lacked class over the final 200m.
Race 8- Highclere highballs to another win. Good race here as they pushed Station Hands track record giving merit to the first three over the line. Highclere set up a warm speed with Kindjhal chasing, but chasing a little keenly. A very good finish with Diamond Jake and Toulese Lautrec making their runs at the leader in the final 200m. Both just failed to pick her up but all three can be followed on there respective campaigns. Zankel was a little unlucky caught wide all the way and Personal Image struggled.
Race 9- Tesbury Jack too slick for the favourite Magnus. Looks a really good sprinter the winner as he sets them along at a strong speed and has the ability to finish it off. Magnus was ok in defeat. ReadyforCatherine looked good first up and will benefit from the run.
Rosehill
Racing to Win was too good in the Hobartville, add to that trainer and jockey think she can improve even more on that performance. De Beers in that race was the eye catcher closing late. Wild Queen dictated terms in the Millie Fox and left Regal Cheer and Steflara flat footed as she speared up the straight to win going away. Lotteria can be forgiven for that first up run with that kind of weight.
Sumac won the Gosford Guineas mid-week on a bog track at the juicy tote odds of $19 win. Tipped here, let's hope we can continue with that kind of form.
